About Sill Science

Sill Science is a short-video channel about why plants do what they do. Each video takes one mechanism, a leaf that grows a whole plant, a pruning cut that doubles a stem, a wick that waters from below, and shows it in under thirty seconds with the reason behind it. This site is the written version: the same videos, with the timeline, the details we could not fit, and the question we ask at the end of each one.

We publish on YouTube, and on TikTok and Instagram under the same name.

How we make the videos

The footage is either our own or used with the creator's permission, and each video credits its source where the footage is not ours. The voice is ours. The explanations are checked against how the plant actually works, and when growers disagree about a method we say so and ask which side you are on.

How this site earns money

Some pages link to tools we use on our own sill. Those links go to Amazon and are affiliate links: if you buy through one, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. We only link to things that appear in a video, and we say what they are bad at as well as what they are good at. Prices are never quoted here because they change; the Amazon page shows the current one.
